Even fragments of the jealously guarded Dead Sea Scrolls have made the trip to Davis, where researchers confirmed that the documents had been preserved by being soaked in salt water, probably from the Dead Sea. They also found that earlier scrolls were written in the purest carbon-based inks. But ink on the later scrolls contained elevated levels of copper.
