Nothing could be more un-English than the actions of the swarms of Oxonians who dot the college grounds. Nothing could be more dubious than Mr. Taylor's inevitable victory in every sport he undertakes. Nothing could be more trite than the way Mr. Taylor wins British acclaim by taking the blame for another man's wickedness. The whole thing is a tour de force. "Women In Prison" isn't very good either...
...anything at all to do with such an apostolic succession. Here are some of the names contained in it: Norman Hapgood, William Vaughn Moody, Edwin Arlington Robinson, Alan Seegar, Van Wyck Brooks, John Dos Passos, Walter Lippmann--the catalogue should really be given in full. It is too trite an observation to venture, that when these and other undergraduates were trying their wings in the "Monthly" their names meant not a whit more to the reading public than those of our young contemporaries who figure in this issue, only in the list of those who now conduct the magazine...

Communists and New Dealers alike are safe...
That writeup struck me as juvenile, dis-Jionest, trite and unconvincing: because a tragedy cannot adequately be described by such comic-strip adverbs as whop! crack! and smash! TIME'S customary understatement was missing. We are not only asked to visualize three distinct divisions of what must have been a confusing accident, but we are expected to do so through the medium of a whop! etc. when the writer has already said there were "three rending crashes." Does he mean that a whop! is a particular type of crash...
