...Another man with visions: he can see death coming but is powerless to stop it. Vaudeville mindreader John Triton (Robinson, in the first of two haunted Woolrich roles) has presentiments of doom for a child playing with fire, a newsboy heading into traffic, his own fiancee, her eventual husband. All of these quickly died. Now, 20 years into his premonitory curse, he has a forewarning of doom for his beloved?s rich daughter (Gail Russell). The world thinks Triton is mad, and he does too, but his conscience goads him to warn her that she will die under the stars...

...electric bass), almost everything is played by himself, from flute to nylon guitar. The album might have benefited from the presence of some words (perhaps even delivered by a Beastie?) but that would have detracted from the monolithic simplicity of the groove, in which the keyboard (or Korg Triton, or arp odyssey synth, or whatever) is king...

...launch in 2001; a comet-rendezvous mission that will take off in February 1999, fly by Comet Wild 2 in 2004 and fly back home with a bit of material from its diaphanous tail; and perhaps even a much-dreamed-of journey to Neptune's planet-size moon Triton. Says Goldin: "We're going to have the most aggressive exploration of our own solar system in the history of the human species...

...possibility of extraterrestrial life on the moons Europa and Triton, discussed in "Life in a Deep Freeze" [SPACE, April 21], seems very likely. Believe me, the prospect of finding it anywhere besides The X-Files is extremely thrilling. But don't you think the $200 million per ship could be put to better use--for example, in Third World countries? FATIMA ANSARI Lahore, Pakistan...

Jupiter's Io and Neptune's Triton could also prove surprising. Though Io appears largely dehydrated, planetologists don't rule out the possibility of subsurface water, particularly since they think that ordinary steam might provide some of the propulsive muscle behind the moon's volcanoes. Triton presents a greater organic hurdle. At -391[degrees]F, the moon is the coldest known object in the solar system. Nevertheless, it appears heavy with subsurface ice, which seems to have got warm enough, in the past at least, to flow over the landscape in a lava-like slurry. More tantalizing, dark streaks near...
