...question now, after such a triumph, is whether it will go to Rove's head so that he loses his grip, like many a political genius before him. His successes have guaranteed that there are plenty of people who would love to see him fail. And more than one pundit has rubbed his hands in anticipation of Rove's overreading the message of Bush's success. But here again, it may be the nature of his relationship with Bush that saves him from the agonies of arrogance...

...mildly, the Bush administration just had a great week. In addition to the President's triumph in the mid-term elections, two months of patient American diplomacy at the United Nations eventually produced a draft resolution on Iraq which won the unanimous endorsement of the Security Council. The way is now open for U.N. inspectors to return to Iraq to secure its compliance with past resolutions; if Baghdad stiffs the U.N. again, "serious consequences" are promised, and everyone knows what the Bush team understands those two words to mean...

Last Saturday at Dartmouth, captain Neil Rose and the potent Crimson offense moved the ball at will, setting eight school records and evoking memories of 2001 in a 31-26 triumph over the Big Green. Tomorrow it will need to avoid a letdown, as the dangerous but underachieving Lions (1-6, 0-4 Ivy) aim to avenge last year’s 45-33 defeat and pull off one of the season’s biggest upsets...

...easier said than done. The Lions have struggled defensively all year, allowing 34 points per contest during their current six-game losing streak. Last week, Yale quarterback Jeff Mroz had a career game against them, slinging for 306 yards and four touchdowns in a dominant 35-7 Bulldog triumph. On the year, opponents have torched the Columbia defense for 418 yards a game, dominating the submissive Lions both in the air and on the ground...
