Some 1999 models shape up as virtual bet-your-company gambles. General Motors has sunk more than $3 billion into its new Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck to appeal to suburbanites who want cargo capacity and a rugged look without any loss of creature comforts. GM put its money under the hood and into the transmission with the aim of creating a quiet ride and responsive handling both on and off the road. To recoup its investment, the company hopes for Silverado sales totaling $14 billion--a sum equal to Microsoft's revenues for all of fiscal 1998--in the next...

...market remains more hotly contested than the one for sport-utility vehicles, which account for 18% of all U.S. car and truck sales. Chrysler has spent more than $2.65 billion to expand the interior and improve the ride of its new Jeep Grand Cherokee, which will cost about $250 less than the 1998 model because features like the CD player will no longer be extra. Chrysler hopes to overtake the Ford Explorer as the market leader. But moving up will be tough in the increasingly crowded SUV category. ...adrenaline; it's definitely the kind of music head-banging was made for. The music puts you in a completely jittery, violent mood. "I'm the Man," in particular, made me want to drink lots of cheap beer and Southern Comfort, go hollering down a road in a pickup truck with some loud rebel yells, bash some mailboxes with a baseball bat, and then go cow-tip-ping. (Quite an endorsement from a 5'4" Asian girl who mostly listens to Sarah McLachlan and likes to read Pablo Neruda poems...

...dumb one. After allegedly leaving Shepard hanging on the fence on that rocky ridge just outside of town, McKinney and Henderson drew attention to themselves by getting into a fight with two other men. It was then, police say, that they found a bloody .357 Magnum in the pickup truck, and Shepard's wallet in McKinney's house. McKinney, by the way, was awaiting sentencing for burglarizing a Kentucky Fried Chicken...

...Cantonese-language Bride With White Hair. Chucky's Hong Kong action-movie heritage is evident in the extreme violence and good, lame humor present. Everything bursts into flames and blows up: a police car, a RV, a waterbed (no joke) and much more. A person hit by a Mack truck is completely atomized. John Ritter (as the police chief out to separate our teen lovers) is murdered horribly--twice! A goth who wears Speedos (played by another damned Arquette sibling) gets his piercings ripped out painfully...
