Though Gore's aura of invincibility has been dented by his strange fund-raising adventures among Buddhist nuns, he remains the Democratic front runner; since Truman, no Vice President who has tried for it has been denied his party's nomination. If he is elected, Gore could bring to the job an extraordinary combination of qualities: he is smart, decisive and prepared (his father, Senator Albert Gore Sr., chose the job for him when he was a boy growing up on the eighth floor of a Washington hotel). He even has a core of convictions...

Through it all, he never let anything slip or allowed the conversation to turn back to the job. When he praised a pbs documentary on Harry Truman, a reporter observed that as Vice President, Truman rarely saw F.D.R. Gore changed the subject. One is based on a story by Truman Capote, the other on a novel co-written by a 14-year-old, country singer LeAnn Rimes, who stars in the drama as herself. This is truly a heart-toasting affair, as Rimes must choose between seeing her grandmother, who has cancer and may not survive an operation planned for the next day, or making her debut at the Grand Ole Opry. The show features Rimes...
...Luce stamp, which will be released in the spring, adds his name to a roster that includes U.S. Presidents (Thomas Jefferson and Harry Truman), warriors (Admiral Chester Nimitz and Chief Crazy Horse), writers (Margaret Mitchell and Bret Harte) and artists (John James Audubon and Mary Cassatt). The diversity of the list would have been particularly pleasing to Luce, who had a journalist's abiding curiosity about people and their work...
