...Green Door, for the millions of young marrieds and college kids who make it a smash, is the image of a nice young lady submitting to, or demanding, some extravagant sexual attention. The minimal plot has Chambers inducted into a secret sex society, where she is put in a truss and suffers the pleasures of many gentlemen, including one of the first African-American sex-film stars, Johnnie Keyes. ...exploits the sickness it supposedly condemns. The killer's notion is to kidnap someone, truss him up in a basement in front of a video camera, and post the torture on his Internet site. "When you use both concrete and steel like this," says William Miller, an expert on bridge engineering at Temple University in Philadelphia, "there can be chemical reactions going on where these two very different substances meet. This is especially a problem in extreme climates where water can get into the cracks between supports, freeze and expand and cause a huge amount of damage." Beyond that, says Miller, "concrete...
