...general election expected next May. One faces a feckless and disunited opposition and consistently tops opinion surveys, even when his policies are being cluster bombed in the newspapers. The other faces a much harder task. Polls by MORI show that 61% are dissatisfied with him, and only 32% trust him to tell the truth. Old allies have abandoned him; rivals leak venomously to bring him down. Both, of course, are Tony Blair, who won huge majorities for Labour in 1997 and 2001. This time he'll have a tougher race, which informally kicks off at the Labour conference this week...

Bears coach Phil Estes will present him with the first donation to a trust in Ruvida’s name....Brown is sporting new uniforms this season. As a welcome change from their traditional muddy, monochromatic outfits, the Bears will be wearing silver helmets with a red stripe and the Brown logo, silver pants and brown jerseys...

...premiums for the fourth year in a row. Despite a slight pullback in the rate of growth, premiums over the past year jumped 11.2%, outpacing inflation and growth in wages by about five times. According to the survey, conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Health Research and Educational Trust, that hike was equally borne by companies and employees, whose share of the costs rose an average 9.8% for singles (to $558) and 10.3% for families (to $2,661). And the future looks no more promising: 52% of large firms said they were "very likely" to pass along more increases...
