We trust that this power will be used with discretion, and that all the propositions made by Yale will be considered as offered in a fair and gentlemanly spirit, until some strong reason appears for thinking otherwise. ...Natural History Society has arranged a course of three lectures, the tickets for which can be procured at Sever's. The Society has an advantage in being first in the field, before satiety has begun to pall upon the most industrious lecture-goers, and we trust that their enterprise may be rewarded by large and appreciative audiences. It is understood that the Philological Society has also a brilliant course of public meetings in view, if the lecturers whom they desire can be secured. We certainly wish success to all our "learned societies" in this matter...

...than could be reasonably expected of beginners. They were, however, players of some experience, a fact which makes them all the more worthy of censure. Their carelessness in training was the cause of their overwhelming defeat by Yale, and rendered their second game little more than a farce. We trust that the present Freshman Nine will profit by this example, and will train honestly and with energy. In this way alone can '85 expect to make a creditable record against Yale next spring...
