...Moscow visit last May ended with a joint communique that included agreement on "measures to prevent incidents at sea and in airspace over it between vessels and aircraft of the U.S. and Soviet navies." By indirection, the Russian exodus from Egypt has honored this pledge in one key sea. TU-16 Badger reconnaissance planes that have long overflown the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean from Egyptian bases have ended such flights and gone home. The games of "chicken" that scrambling U.S. carrier pilots played with them have stopped...
...existence threatened by "little things-errors of judgment, but never crimes" -Bogus begins identifying with Akthelt, the heroic warrior and lover in Akthelt and Gunnel-an absurd Old Low Norse epic he is translating for his doctoral thesis. And when Akthelt is told "Det henskit of krig er tu overleve" ('The object of war is to survive it"), Trumper thinks: "Which struck me as the object of graduate school-and possibly my marriage...
...supersonic speeds (as high as Mach 1.5 or approximately 1,000 m.p.h.), and would do so at considerably lower cost than other SSTs. Tu?, and answer in the way every Puccini fan dreams of hearing but rarely does. Awesome is the word for Birgit Nilsson's portrayal of Salome's final 14 minutes on earth. As for the Act I love duet from Otello, Soprano Teresa Zylis-Gara sings...
Despite her name, Tuesday Weld was born on a Friday. Then why is she called Tuesday? There is no telling for sure, though in the past she has said that the name was 1) a childhood corruption ("Tu-Tu") of Susan, her given name, 2) derived from the day when all the worst things happened to her mother, and 3) a mispronunciation of two-days, the length of time her mother was in labor with her. Whatever the truth, the world is beginning to realize that, at 28, Tuesday Weld is a first-rate actress...
