This new-old sound gooses the upbeat moments and adds wallop to the ragers, especially the jump-starter "Youth Decay," but doesn't realize the potential of the moodier material. Nothing here's as evocative as The Hot Rock's "The Size of Our Love." And Tucker and fellow singer/guitarist Carrie Brownstein focus on the usual topics in their direct lyrics: relationships and the rock scene. The real interest here comes from the riff-driven, mood-shifting songs, Tucker's delivery (everything from talk-singing to moaning, not to mention singing) and, most of all, the casual, gripping mesh...
