Homosexuals, having in recent time made great strides with several religious denominations - including the ordination of gay priests - this week ran up against a stone wall in their quest for total acceptance. Tuesday, the Georgia branch of the Southern Baptists expelled two churches that allow gays in leadership positions, including one that permitted a gay "marriage." A day later the Nebraska branch of the United Methodist Church voted to defrock Jimmy Creech, a pastor who's performed 13 gay marriages, sometimes known as "commitment ceremonies...

The prosecution said he bragged to pals that he was going to kill someone. The trial ended Tuesday with a verdict of second-degree murder...
Havana and Washington got their first glimpse Tuesday of what a post-embargo Cuba may look like. Fidel Castro donned a business suit to revel in the presence of the heads of state of Spain, Portugal and 14 Latin American countries at an Ibero-American summit on the once-isolated island. Moved PermanentlyMoved PermanentlyFortune Investor DataEven if they were a bit surprised by Tuesday's announcement, traders can now breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy their holidays. "This is the Fed's third tap on the brakes since summer," says Baumohl. "And it's probably not a bad thing, since it will end speculation for the next couple of months about any new movement on rates." It's likely, adds Baumohl, that this is the last interest rate adjustment we'll see in 1999, and perhaps well into 2000 - for reasons close to the chairman's heart. "Greenspan...
