Composer Shostakovich has been on & off the careening bandwagon of the Soviet music party line. When he was off, his work was denounced as "un-Soviet, unwholesome, cheap, eccentric, tuneless and Leftist" by Pravda, which probably spoke for Musicritic Stalin.
