Uses of Dr. Fink's tungsten plate will be less ubiquitous. Its chief value lies in its resistance to hydrochloric acid. Only gold is so resistant. But gold is too precious to coat the pots and pipes of Industry. Electroplating is the only practical way of putting on tungsten coats. But the electroplater needs a stable solution of a tungsten salt in water. Most tungsten compounds decompose in water or else are altogether insoluble.
