With the world's attention focused on Eastern Europe, no one expected the resurgence of an ugly little war in a troubled little country on the American continent. Certainly not the El Salvadoran armed forces, or the U.S. Government, which funds the Salvadoran military to the tune of $85 million a year. Or the 5 million war-weary citizens of El Salvador. All had been encouraged by two recent rounds of peace talks to hope that a settlement in El Salvador's ten-year civil war might be in the offing. Even when the talks broke off three weeks...
...among the 121 network affiliates that are CNN partners. The Atlanta-based cable network airs stories provided by its partners via satellite, and distributes the stories to other station partners for their use. "The sperm comes on and people go crazy," says Jonathan Krane, the film's producer. "From then on they're laughing at the picture." Not quite. They're laughing with it, in the easy, conspiratorial laughter any domestic comedy would kill...
...close your eyes during the final guitar solo at the end of "Before You Accuse Me," you just might think you're listening to an old Bluesbreakers tune. But you're not. Eric Clapton's Journeyman has planted him firmly in the 1980s world of synthesizers and drum kits. The few blues songs that prop up this album seem sadly anachronistic in an arena of bubble...
