Indeed, most researchers believe autism arises from a combination of genetic vulnerabilities and environmental triggers. An identical twin of a child with autism has a 60% to 90% chance of also being affected. And there's little doubt that a vulnerability to ASD runs in some families: the sibling of a child with autism has about a 10% chance of having ASD. Gene scientists working on autism have found suspicious spots on chromosomes 2, 5, 7, 11 and 17, but there are probably dozens of genes at work. "We think there are a number of different autisms, each of which...

...praying as the plane sways towards the velvet Appalachians. “United 93” is a superbly shot film, with strikingly poignant sequences that heighten the spiritual feel—the airplanes lined up on the tarmac looking fuzzy in the boiling heat of their engines, the Twin Towers burning desperately through a window of the banking plane. Greengrass uses a soft focus and grainy film to create a washed-out effect, which does work to bring out the jumpy chaos as the realization of the tragedy builds. ...them confused and, too often, simply abandoned. Funding care for people over time, instead of for specific medical events, reduces the burden of illness by focusing on high quality preventive care. We need "managed care" as it was originally intended to be - the good kind, not the evil, mutant twin that just tried to cut costs, restrict choice, and limit available care. Correctly conceived, "managed care" addresses the real needs of patients over time and place, guiding them through the technological thicket of modern medicine, and making sure that they get exactly what they want and need, exactly when...

...Eddy exaggerated the pain of minor injuries in order to get out of a job he didn't like. He probably didn't think he would really become disabled by being a good plaintiff. It's the evil twin of rehabilitation - act sick-get sick - and it happens a lot. "Accentuate the negative" may be sound legal counsel, but it's the worst possible medical advice anyone could ever give. It's a pain for the doctor, and often ultimately, an even bigger pain for the patient...
