Stronger Drug. A new drug for such allergies as hay fever, hives and asthma was announced by a six-woman, two-man team headed by Dr. Richard Tislow of Schering Corp.'s laboratories in Bloomfield, NJ. The drug is called Chlor-Trimeton. In experiments on animals it proved to be 50 times as strong as some drugs now used to combat histamine (the substance thought to be released in the body as part of allergic reactions). But its strength did not cause a corresponding increase in unpleasant effects, and it lasted much longer. Chlor-Trimeton is now being tried...

Last week, with the two-man and four-man bobsled championships of the world to be decided, the tourists were kept on the sidelines. Hell-for-leathers from three nations-France, Switzerland and the U.S. -used oil and emery-paper to make their sleds even slicker and faster. One of the bobbers was 235-lb. Bill Casey, brakeman for one of the U.S. four-man entries. While the two-man championships were being run, Casey lined up with the spectators at perilous Shady Corner, a hairpin curve that has to be taken just right...

Four days later a C-54 tried again, this time releasing a glider and two-man crew for an air-ground pickup. Twice the tow plane managed to snare the glider on a pickup line. Both times the glider broke through the icy crust and bogged down in the snow; the pickup line snapped. The glider's crew joined the nine stranded men on the icecap. More food and clothing were dropped, along with heaters, fuel and a collapsible plywood shelter. The shivering airmen burrowed into the snow, rigged a canvas roof overhead as protection against the gale...
