...mugging has its place in this show, where most of the acting (and most everything else) is subordinated to the singing and dancing. And that's as it should be. This is the kind of show you walk out of furtively trying to execute a two-step and humming under your breath, "Do, do, do what you've done, done, done before, baby...Do, do, do what I do, do, do adore baby." You may get a few stares, but anyone who has ever fallen under the spell of a twenties musical will understand where your head...

Over all, the tax bill is much more favorable to lower-income taxpayers than was Ford's original proposal for a $16 billion, two-step rebate on 1974 taxes. The congressional bill gives only 14.8% of the individual tax benefits to persons with incomes above $20,000 a year. Those earning from $10,000 to $20,000 will get 41.6% of the benefits, while those making under $10,000 will receive 43.5%. Compared with businesses, individuals get by far the larger share of the tax cuts...

Dylan's eloquence stems partly from a salutary imprecision. His throbbing harmonica, Delphic imagery and occasional Chaplinesque two-step are constants, but his message, like the times, is continually changing. "This show is definitely not nostalgia," he whispered last week between silences and long stares. "To my mind, I deal with certain problems. It's an up-to-date show...

...before we go anywhere. You need some image to hype. We haven't developed that yet. And you need original material. We don't really have that yet either." The stage at the Oxford Ale House is so cramped with equipment that there is not enough room for a two-step, let alone spectacular leaps, but the band feels that playing constantly will let a more natural personal style emerge. "We're getting a good feel for the music we like best," Glenn says. "Country rock, like Eagles, Jackson Browne and Gram Parsons have been working out well...

...staunch adherent of a small, New York-based band of some 40 Protestant pentecostalists who call themselves the New Testament Missionary Fellowship. The group's three-hour Sunday services, in a Manhattan apartment, include robust hymn fests and something called "dancing in the Spirit," a sprightly, solo two-step that expresses their spiritual joy. Otherwise, the fellowship is self-consciously prim. Men wear short haircuts and neat suits; women wear dresses that fall below the knee. Members eschew all nonmarital sex, hold regular jobs, tend to live close to one another as if in some kind of lay monastery...
