Publication of the University Register this year will have to be indefinitely postponed or totally abandoned, it was announced last night by its editor, following receipt of information from New Haven, Conn., of the destruction of all type by the recent fire in the Van Dyke Printing Company, publishers of the projected Register. Because of the late hour at which the news was received, the editors were unable to consult with the Student Council as to what course will be pursued...
According to the reports, all the type was either melted or strewn about the ruins of the gutted building. This type, which represented the entire publication, had been completely proof-read and was all ready to be locked in the forms when the fire occurred. The Van Dyke Company is completely disrupted and is doing no work at all. The Yale Daily News, formerly published in the Van Dyke plant, is now being printed in another shop...
...same week. The billy goat invited attention to the versatility of the Seaboard National Bank, whose officers constantly dealt with matters as far away and, as far separated as Oregon and Texas, where goats abound. This gentle type the body cells & fluids can easily destroy. It is the presence of that dissociating power, Dr. Soule believes, that renders people immune to disease, rather than any specific germicidal activity of the body fluids...
From this house will each day issue the myriad copies of Hearst's New York Journal (evening) and American (morning). It is alive with rollers, chutes, conveyors to carry copy, proof, type to contact points in the process of rushing news to newsboy. In the "fudge" room stand three linotype machines next to telegraph instruments where telegraphic flashes tell sudden death, discovery, disaster. From the machines, conveyors carry the type galley directly to the presses. News, newspapers think, should be gobbled hot. The American and Journal have every known device to sell it smoking...
