...Maeterlinck's allegorical fairy tale. Jane Fonda seized the occasion to make political statements to reporters. ("... It's not in the Soviet Union where civil liberties are most infringed, but in South Viet Nam.") In the movie Fonda is cast as Night, Ava Gardner as Luxury, Cicely Tyson as Cat, while Elizabeth Taylor plays Light, Witch, Mother and Maternal Love. Director George Cukor's difficulties in communicating with Soviet artists and cameramen has threatened the film's projected summer completion. "I'm sending for my children to be with me for Easter," Mother Taylor told...
Seldom does a major daily newspaper execute as many flip-flops on important stories as the Detroit Free Press did in recent weeks. The first came over an article by Remer Tyson, 40, the paper's political correspondent, and Reporter Dave Anderson, 32, five days before the November elections. Their story accused State Representative James Damman, the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, of conflicts of interest arising from his land deals while a member of the city commission and zoning board of Troy, a Detroit suburb...

Angered, the city news staff...

Nate Shaw's story in the just-published All God's Dangers will make Cicely Tyson's hundred-year-old woman look a little less inspiring about the black experience--she emerges with an integrity borne of quiet suffering rather than resistance and strength, but nonetheless Tyson's performance is very moving. For all its flaws, and maudlin and liberal as it sometimes is, Pittman...
...former Airplane member Marty Balin. Unfortunately, he appears on only one cut of the Starship's latest release, so in retrospect, maybe it's better to forget this one. Music Hall, October 13 & 14.
