Opponents of the UC's transgenderism resolution are right on a number of practical grounds. Because of the logistical havoc that will ensue as a result of accepting the resolution, legislating transgenderism at Harvard must be opposed. The transgenderism resolution before the UC would make the status of transgendered students so ambiguous as to present numerous complications in situations where the biological distinction between males and females is of great importance. Let me enumerate some examples of the inevitable and utterly impractical repercussions...
While I am opposed to discrimination on any grounds, this latest action by the UC is just another indication that the champions of political correctness have again crossed into the realm of the absurd. I respect the right of individuals to perceive themselves however they please but do not believe that such self-perceptions need form the basis for a minority group that must be explicitly protected. By urging the University to adopt a legal policy towards individuals who wish to transcend their physical characteristics in forming identity, the UC is leading the way into both intellectually and practically convuluted...
