...rules would not only bar judges from outside employment, excepting only lecturing, writing and teaching on legal subjects, but would also require disclosure within the Judicial branch of all income. In a sense, Warren was racing Congress, where three bills on judicial ethics have already been submitted. It is uncertain, however, how far Congress could go in clamping down on a supposedly coequal branch of government. Many Congressmen believe that the matter would best be resolved by the judges...

...flapdoodle that does not fit into any category that book-jacket haikuists can think of. The tall stories that Faulkner wrote when his mood was bourbon-light are in the same family; The Reivers bears a resemblance to Fools' Parade. Dark violence and piebald absurdity share an uncertain border, and now and then some mythmaker on his day off, like Grubb, manages to write within this uncertainty. Offner himself denied the charge, and the prosecution could produce no one other than Watson himself to testify that Offner was one of the people who evicted the dean from the building. The unfairness of Offner's conviction is underscored by the fact that Watson was unable to identify anyone else involved in evicting him, although he did admit that several other people pushed him. The atmosphere during the seizure was obviously confused and hectic, and it is hard to believe that Watson could have been certain about Offner...
