Wily Greeks hurried to Athens last week, sought rich pickings. Dictator Pangalos had been deposed, jailed (TIME, Aug. 30). His equally notorious successor in dictatorship, General Kondylis was, per force, passing out the plums of his new regime. The time was ripe for unctious smirks and fawns, for oratory, guile and treachery. The Greeks were happy. Even Admiral Hadjikiriakos, supposedly down and out as the crony in dictatorship of General Pangalos, was able to spellbind the Athenian rabble for an afternoon in Constitution Square. At eve he sought the new Dictator-with and against whom he has plotted many times...
...Sayler sanely evaluates our theatre. His is not the unctious praise of the jingoistic orator. He sees and fearlessly points out our faults--and we have many. But his fault-finding is not discouragement. He lets us look at the future, perhaps a little too glorious, but yet a future towards which we are surely advancing. We shall learn by our mistakes, and grow, till we become "the refuge, clearing-house, testing ground for the theatre of the world...
...Illustrated continues its policy of serving as a sort of University Guide Book on the installment plan. In this issue there are two articles. One by Forest Cooke '10, reveals a rather unctious enthusiasm about the Brooks House, where undergraduates "catch" "religious experience." The other, by H. Y. Masten '10, narrates the adventures of Cambridge astronomers in "photographing the heavens" and supplies information, such as it is, about the astronomical instruments, their cost and equipment. The exploration and exploitation of Darkest Harvard for the benefit of readers of the Illustrated is without a doubt a worthy mission for a college...
