...Pinter's play is a profound statement on the carefully constructed lies that often pass for love, and unfortunately Fran Weinberg's direction seems to miss many of the subtleties of Pinter's argument. Weinberg focuses on the emptiness of middle-class existence, ignoring the deep sadness that lies underneath the overly formal words of Pinter's sometime lovers. Their passionate love-making loses the tone of sheer desperation that makes it so sad in the text. Its detachment from reality becomes more of a reflection on the lovers themselves than a commentary on the painful necessity of fantasy...

Sashie feels the tension of assimilation; in one instance, she appeals to her hair for assistance in cultivating identity-- "There was a black coating on my hair but I could see out of the corners of my eyes that it was golden underneath, if they would only look." ...harsh, realistic lines and dreamy background music is fascinating in the first tract, but becomes a bit monotonous after appearing incessantly throughout the album. If you're able to get past the tedious three-minute instrumental introductions of each track, powerful lines such as, "What good is ones toil underneath the sun?/that same indifferent sphere gave birth to the shadows/where we count the days off by headlines on the morning paper" (from "Seizures") are sure to move...
