...more thoughtful rehearsing. Black Star Theater was formed only this fall, and Krieger said that one of the most exciting advantages to having what is in effect a repertory company is learning and growing with each production. Not I and I Lost a Pair of Gloves Yesterday, though uneven, are valuable portents, not just for Black Star Theater, for the future of innovative theatre at Harvard...
Carter's political strength rises and falls rather mercurially, a mark of his uneven record as President and his unemotional way of administering the office. In addition there seems to be a growing, perhaps dangerous longing for a leader who is larger than life. By the indications of Carter's first two years, he will never be an Inspirational leader. The vocal sections are disappointing; Chick's voice lines are difficult, and Gayle Moran has the training...
...call California Suite uneven doesn't really begin to describe the movie's split personality. This latest Neil Simon-Herbert Ross collaboration is by turns silly and thoughtful, tedious and charming, broad and delicate. It contains some of Simon's best writing as well as his worst: childish jokes about vomiting coexist with wise statements about the art of marriage. So mixed are the returns on California Suite that, if it were an election, one would insist on a recount...
