Mellowing in retirement after some 40 years as chief of the United Mine Workers, Unionist John Llewellyn Lewis, 80, was slated to get proof that his former foes, the coal-mine operators, have mellowed along with him. Ready to honor Shakespearean Scholar Lewis at a banquet in Washington this week, the Consolidation Coal Co.'s Board Chairman George Love, acting on behalf of the operators, planned to present Lewis with a rare, 15-volume set of Shakespeare's plays.
