Clinton and McCain are still the betters' favorites, but as voters begin paying more attention and the Iraq war grows even more unpopular, the back of the pack is getting more competitive. In the Republican competition, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee leapt forward with the release of a new book and a suitably self-deprecating turn on The Daily Show. Oh, and Democratic Senator Chris Dodd announced, totally shaking up the delicate balance in Connecticut's Democrat/Connecticut-for-Lieberman coalition...

...worrying, it was simply not possible to argue against the war at the time. One was either "with us or against us." Intelligent discussion was pre-empted. So the issue is not about journalism and the courage to express different opinions but about self-censorship and the crushing of unpopular opinions. It may not be exclusively a Russian disease.
