...Thatcher, a member of the Harvard Republican Club, claims in her profile to be a “Moderate,” but has in the past told this very liberal writer that government should get off people’s backs, but should also ban gay marriages. Logically unsound, effectively intolerant and intentionally insensitive, Ms. Thatcher’s argument was classically conservative. Her social life will surely suffer, but Ms. Thatcher and her fellow conservatives donning the shameful cloak of the moderate must end the charade now and reveal themselves in all their American-flag-draped glory...
...understand Summers’ decision. In a letter addressed to HLS’ Lambda, a student organization that aims to provide a voice for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community at the Law School, Summers correctly identifies the recent interpretations of the Solomon Amendment as “unsound and corrosive public policy.” And yet he goes on to provide an unsatisfying explanation for not challenging such a despicable policy. “Particularly in light of the highly constructive partnership that exists between higher education and the federal government in a great many areas...

Even if more people were needed to provide a larger labor force, we certainly should not be giving incentives to those individuals who seem to be least able to care for their children. The omission of the child tax credit from the tax-cut bill was arguably the best part of the legislation. MIKE WHITE Baltimore...
