During last April's crisis, the Design School group called upon the University to build 3000 new housing units in Cambridge. Two weeks ago, Harvard announced plans to construct 389 housing units exclusively for the use of non-Harvard residents of Cambridge. Plans for another 600 to 700 units-most of which will probably be for Harvard personnel-are currently being developed...

The reality is that we are all physically contaminated by it, since it represents one of our pathetically few sources of "information." We are corrupted by television even if we have never gazed upon it, for we must live among those who have gazed upon little else. I admit that it is difficult to abstract from those tiny colored images, largely static, to the minds of those who watch TV eight hours a day. Dorfman said that he hopes the convocation will result in the approval of some kind of withdrawal motion "voted upon and adopted by virtually all the members of the Faculty." Although Faculty members are free during a recess, he said he hopes they will remain in their seats and participate in the convocation. Dorfman said he will chair the convocation...

Without credit, though, our groups will face the same big problem they had last year: an often crippling rate of attrition. A lot of people quit because of the demands made upon their time by Harvard Old College. A lot more quit because they expected miracles without trying to cause them. If a New College group is successful, it is because the participants make it that way. If they sit back and wait, they'll probably be disappointed. Without the undeniably negative incentive of credit, many people will see no reason to keep on trying...
