Constantly stricter work since the recess has brought about a uniform advance in the work of the upperclass crews. They usually go out on Saturday now, but day before yesterday the second Senior and Junior crews did not row. The first Junior and Sophomore crews have been handicapped by the loss of Swaim and Lewell respectively, who were taken up on Saturday to the University second eight. During the five weeks that the upperclass crews have been out on the river the improvement has been steady and the crews are lengthening the distances. The weather conditions of the past two weeks have been favorable and the men have had the added benefit of coaching from the "Veritas", the Seniors and Sophomores by Rice three days in the week and the Juniors by Stephenson the rest of the time...

The freshman and upperclass crews are also at the harbor making a total of 18 or 20 Yale shells on the water every day. ...upperclass crews have been improving steadily during the past week as the weather conditions have been favorable and Coaches Rice and Stephenson have been able to accompany the crews in the Veritas. Longer rows have been taken, usually down-stream into the basin and often as far as Harvard bridge. Owing to the roughness of the water yesterday the Seniors went down-stream only as far as the gas works and the Juniors and Sophomores up-stream to the Brighton bridge and back.
