...last Boston is green with home team hope again. The Celtics last week reclaimed their crown by beating the upstart but impressive Houston Rockets, four games to two. The guys in the funny sneakers won in classic Celtic style: sweeping the air of rebounds, then dashing upcourt with the game's finest fast break. In the final game, played before 16,121 screaming Houston fans, Boston withstood a dazzling fourth-quarter resurgence by the Rockets. Over a five-minute stretch, Houston scored 16 points to a mere two for Boston, whittling the Celtic lead from 15 points to three...

GOING TO the movies today gives one the feeling of being an unwitting contributor to a Hollywood Slice-N-Dice-a-Thon. The Saxon theater, the cheesy upstart of the Sack line, fills its lobby with horror film posters. To the left, a nubile woman is undergoing a tracheotomy by cleaver, and to the right, half-naked women cringe in terror as an ax-murderer emerges from the shadows...

L.B.J. might have appreciated the upstart actor turned politician. Some indestructible core of optimism that was forged in the mad '20s and the Great Depression surged in Johnson, as it does in Reagan. One night Johnson ordered his aide Richard Goodwin to redesign the U.S. to abolish disease, ignorance and poverty. Goodwin wrote it out on his Smith-Corona, and Johnson gave it voice at the University of Michigan stadium. Reagan was a bit more in scale than the flamboyant Texan last week, but his people in his arena, a joint session of Congress, cheered and whistled...
