Denise (Naturi Naughton, a petite Jennifer Hudson type) is the classical pianist with the urge to sing - when she does so the first time in the movie, her eyes well up with tears and the preview audience burst into applause - but her uptight parents want her to walk the straight and narrow. They, by the way, are referred to in the cast credit's only as Denise's Mother and Denise's Father, which is exactly the way you want parents dealt with in a movie like this...
