Yudkin asserts that specific concepts, such as mass or acceleration are useless to the non-scientist. Such a statement contradicts the most common definition of education, as the explication and understanding of the structure of human knowledge. Without these elementary concepts, it is impossible to have any notion of the scientists' view of the world. This does not mean that every man must rigorously understand the most advanced concepts; that is surely a waste of time. But some kind of general conceptual scheme would seem to be valuable...
FOREIGN POLICY Goldwater's foreign policy views, developed in his 1962 book, Why Nos Victory? follows from his goal of "total victory." Believing that negotiations with the Communists are useless and dangerous, he has endorsed severing diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union and other Communist countries: 'Communists do not look upon negotiations as we do. For them, negotiations are simply an instrument of political warfare." He would bar Red China from the United Nations and consider ending United States membership in the organization: "The United Nations is in part a Communist organization ...we should therefore not be surprised that many...

Thornton lives in a Spanish-style ranch house in the fashionable Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles, among such Hollywood names as Walt Disney, Bing Crosby and Claudette Colbert (he bought the house for $250,000 from Frank Sinatra's first wife Nancy). He and his tall, graceful wife Flora live there during...

In The Lotus and the Robot, Arthur Koestler says of Oriental mysticism in general: "The messianic arrogance of the Christian crusader is matched by the Yogi's arrogant attitude of detachment towards human suffering...
Syncom I, which was launched last February, went into near-perfect orbit, but its electronics system broke down, leaving it useless as a relay station. Last week's successor, Syncom II, did better. As the satellite climbed toward orbit more than two hours after launch, the Navy communications ship Kingsport, anchored at Lagos, Nigeria, called it by microwave radio. Syncom II answered smartly, proving that its electronics gear was healthy. The satellite even bounced a recording of The Star-Spangled Banner back to the Kingsport...
