...imposed design standards on Hamburger Alley to limit the blight, but at the time he feared doing so would slow the town's progress. By 1995, as the Alley spread west into Wilmington--driving some Main Street shops out of business, drawing others to the strip--it devoured a vacant area known as the Point, where Kent Pickard and his wife had for years run a farm stand called Garden Delight. Pickard's white vegetable booths now collect dust behind his old brick house, because the Point is inhabited by a Donatos Pizza, a Damon's rib house...
Another standout is Carolyn Cooke's "Bob Darling." The story details the strained relationship that develops between the dying title character and an alternately vacant and moody Manhattan woman. The growing distance between Darling and Carla is comically captured in a lengthy argument about the differences between naked and nude...
...model may resemble a 61-year-old businessman named Guy Millner. In 1994, armed with $1.6 million of his own money, Millner jumped into Georgia's gubernatorial race and won the Republican primary before losing narrowly to incumbent Democrat Zell Miller. Political wags figured he was finished, or possibly broke--Millner had footed $6.4 million of that campaign's costs. But this summer Millner surprised them and announced his candidacy for Governor in 1998. Polls...

She is upstaged by Wen (who played June in The Joy Luck Club). Snipes and Wen have great chemistry, taking an argument about a dress and twisting it beautifully into a full-out tete-a-tete. Snipes' nuanced performance--for which he received the Best Actor Award at this year's Venice Film Festival--makes you wish that he would give up playing generic action heroes and return to more serious acting like that of his earlier work...
