...Vagabond finds himself in a strangely ambiguous position during the week which begins today. Cambridge seems to be populated entirely by two classes of inhabitants, neither of which is at all inclined to be appreciative of his efforts to provide them with such stray bits of enlightment as may still be found after the beginning of the Reading Period. On the one side there is a harried group who mutter something about "Divisionals" and hurry back to their books. At the other extreme are those whose academic engagements have been reduced to a minimum and who do not even look...
...Vagabond has little or no patience with the scheme of things which reserves the first of January for good resolutions and the first of April, a mere three months later, for practical jokes. So he feels that he is wholly within his rights in making a resolution on the first of May--namely that his suggestions for the second day of this month eschew the consideration of laudable but after all secondary matters such as excursions up the river and Divisional Examinations, in favor of what is in the last analysis his particular line of activity: the academic...

Of course, that will not provide him with a sheepskin, and he shall probably have to content himself for some time with goat hide...
...withstanding all this and the scornful claim of the cognoscenti that after all the Pops are not cultural but pander to the vulgar taste for the simple and obvious, the Vagabond will attend them, and will be seen almost any night, armed with the proper sustenance and a cigar, listening to the music and wishing that the beer were real and that he were sitting under the cool and fragrant shade of the linden trees in--But that is pure nostalgia...
