...Newell Club there were so many men wishing to row in singles that the equipment of the house was hardly sufficient. There were also four-oars and pairs out and four eights, which were more or less graded. It is expected that Coach Vail will arrive in Cambridge at the end of the week, and that the equipment can be moved up to the new boat house by some time next week...

Yesterday was the first day of organized rowing at the Weld and Newell boat clubs. In addition to a number of singles and pair-oars, five eights were organized at each club. Neither club had a professional coach to direct the rowing, Donovan of the Weld and Vail of the Newell not yet having returned to coaching duties. Both coaches, however, are expected to take up their duties soon...

...Freshman squad, now reduced to three eights, has been rowing from the University boat house under the coaching of D. M. Goodrich '98 and N. W. Tilton '00, who will act as assistant coach throughout the season. Vail now works only with the Newell graded crews. Several changes have been made in the Freshman first and second eights and it is unlikely that a definite order in the first crew for the Worcester race will be made for a few days to come. Derby, who rowed on the first Weld but was laid off, will possibly be tried...
