While reasonable, moral and intelligent people have valid arguments for or against the death penalty, one thing rings true: the decision is too important and too serious to be dictated by the whims of politics. We sent them into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to protect the vital interests of the U.S. and its allies - the oil reserves that Saddam Hussein would've controlled if he hadn't been ejected from Kuwait and stopped from invading Saudi Arabia. Advocates of greater accountability in the schools contend that teachers--not the tests--are to blame for the cheating. But even some backers of tough standards are taking a second look at the tests.
