...study published in this month's Annals of Internal Medicine, Cornell University researchers asked 195 university students to pour out 1 tsp. (5 ml) of cold medicine into kitchen spoons of various sizes. Consistently, the subjects botched the job, pouring out an average of 8% too little or 12% too much, depending on spoon size. Using a medium-size tablespoon they erred on the side of caution and tended to underdose. Using a large tablespoon, they overcompensated and overdosed. That is where the real danger lies. To address at least some of these cases, the FDA convened a panel of experts in June 2009 and charged them with the task of evaluating the safety of acetaminophen-containing drugs. ...lover are "sentenced to marry." This makes the book a supreme act of navel-gazing, even for a memoir. While the legal complexities are being worked out, the two kill time by traveling together. The source tells TIME that officers eventually arrested Gelle at a hotel in the predominantly Somali area of Eastleigh for having improper documents. He was held for seven weeks and then deported to Denmark, where he had lived...
...first launched in January 2008, more than $3 million has been put on the line. But the site relies on the honor system, and with a self-reported 70% success rate among users who pledge money, only $116,000 is scheduled to be paid out in 2009. (For various reasons, disbursements to charities are made in lump sums at the end of the year.) Karlan knows there are cheaters among the site's 50,000 users, and Sisson admits that she is one of them. She says she lied in 2008 about achieving her goal of losing...
