Harvard will be weakest in the same events as last year--the hurdles and dashes--and also the pole vault, now that Steve Schoonover is gone. The high jump and long jump are still questions. Junior Jim Coleman has the potential to become a 6'6" or 6'7" high jumper this year. Harvard's three long jumpers--Bob Galliers, Skip Hare, and John Avault--are back this year and could be good, but Galliers and Avault have each been hampered by injuries...
...none more so than the Sistine ceiling, perhaps the greatest painting ever made. It is exposed to view and yet cannot be seen. For one thing, it gleams a long way overhead, 68 feet at its apex, and it is enormous-5,599 square feet. The huge blue vault of air beneath it obscures all but the main figures...

On form, Nixon should have carried his native state...
Down to the Last. The second day's competition began with the 110-meter hurdles, and Bill ran it in 14.9 sec., .3 sec. slower than his best. His discus throw, 143 ft. 31 in., was "near what I wanted," but the pole vault almost proved a disaster. "I just about had a heart attack when I missed the opening height on my first two attempts," said Toomey. He pulled himself together to vault 13 ft. 91 in., tying his personal record. A 206-ft. i-in. javelin throw kept him in first place, a bare 61 points ahead...
