Ever so long ago Richard Vaux was a marvellously handsome and fascinating young man. He went to Europe, and being possessed of large means had access to the best society, and even attracted the notice of the young Queen of England, who had but then just come to the throne. It is said - the story being told to me by persons high in authority in England - that her heart's first affections were given to Richard Vaux of Quaker City, and she would have married him if she had been allowed, but state reasons prevailed to deter her.
