...Instead of criticizing Chávez for his verbal attack on the President, perhaps we should ask why foreign leaders like him are attacking Bush. Has a U.S. President ever been so vilified worldwide? Is the rest of the world wrong? I applaud the courage of Chávez, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and others who are not afraid to speak out. If our leaders are pigheaded and hell-bent on having their erroneous way, we should stop them from pursuing their ill-conceived, self-destructive course. David Chen Hacienda Heights, California...

...fascinating ambiguity between childlike innocence and pathetic nagging.Michael B. Hoagland ’07 brings a wealth of experience to the role of Boo; the HRDC Mainstage veteran does an excellent job of portraying Boo as a handsome face and little else. Plagued by his alcoholism and a verbally abusive father (Karl, played Benjamin K. Kawaller ’07), Boo is emotionally unavailable to his wife and son for most of the play. Hoagland creates this blank image of a husband almost too well, to the point that Boo seems too flat to be human sometimes. He nonetheless plays...

...this talk about throwdowns and we didn’t even mention the most wild assault of the weekend—Columbia head coach Norries Wilson’s verbal tirade following his team’s shutout loss at Penn. The Man made the big guy apologize (free speech is out, don’tcha know?), but he must have lit a fire under this Lions team, whose defense is hands down the best unit on the field...

The committee discussed specific measures to further decrease the level and degree of misbehavior in the local schools. Although the committee noted that discipline reporting may not be consistent across classrooms, acting Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) principal Christopher Saheed attributed the decreases to a school-wide cultural change...

...idea that women in niqab can assimilate properly into a community or be effective as teachers distresses me, because it is at heart disingenuous. Clearly, meaningful social exchange requires a face. And the argument that non-verbal communication is inessential only addresses half the problem. The obscured woman, who can see her interlocutor clearly through her slits, is enjoying contact with a face; it's the other party, conversing with a tiny black tent, that bears the burden of the discomfort. It would be more sincere for niqab-wearers to say that they accept the cost of refusing to compromise...
