...nuclear, then which carbon-free energy source will power our post-climate change future? Lovins favors a diverse mix of renewables, integrated to compensate for individual faults - solar for when the wind doesn't blow, and vice versa. He also wants to focus on energy efficiency and micropower, shifting away from the old model of the massive central plant sending out electricity - i.e., your local nuke - in favor of smaller plants, even residence-scale ones, built close to population centers. Reducing carbon emissions, he argues, will be cheaper and safer if we turn away from nuclear in favor of alternatives...

...achieve closer ties with both the U.S. and China? I don't believe that the relationship between Korea and China will worsen because of [closer U.S. ties] or vice versa. It is in the interest of the U.S. for the relationship between Korea and China to be on a friendly and cooperative basis, because if it wasn't, the U.S. would have a very difficult time trying to navigate and maneuver in Northeast Asia. ...This propaganda is as insidious as it is damaging. When the mother states that she needs surgery to fit into her wardrobe, how can a kindergartner help but forget that garments are meant to fit people, not vice versa? If we teach children as young as four that cosmetic surgery is a panacea for all self-esteem problems, our collective national body image can only become still more distorted. Notice further that fathers and sons are absent from this tale, a fact that sends the decidedly antifeminist message that it is only the female body that must be perfected...

...Taking the average of just two daily samples makes it tricky to untangle the impact that a higher than average testosterone level has on that day's profit and loss - or vice versa. More telling, though, is the correlation between a higher morning testosterone level and the pumped-up profits recorded later the same day. Traders scored elevated testosterone on different days, scratching out any chance that blanket market changes were at work on the entire group's profits (and hormones). The traders' levels of cortisol, meanwhile, a hormone affecting their response to challenge or stress that was measured using...
