Harvard's veteran backfield started off in fine style, and promises in general power to be second to none this year. Brickley was always good for substantial gains through the line, but owing to the one-sided play was not called upon to try any drops. Mahan showed all of his old dash and brilliancy in the open field. Once given a start, it took two to four men to stop him. Bradlee was not used much on the offence. The game was not of the type to best display his abilities. His greatest value is as a defensive back...

...backfield is very well taken care of, two fast sets having already been formed. On the first are Wilson, Knowles, Ainsworthy, and LeGore. Captain Talbott, at tackle, is the only veteran on the line, and even he is not considered heavy enough to play efficiently through the whole of a hard struggle. The ends are being filled by substitutes from last year, one of them being Braun, who played in most of the Harvard game. Both White and Way have been lost to the squad, and Guernsey is ineligible pending the result of examinations. The material, however, is far above...

...veteran Harding will take care of center and will have Captain Moore on his left and Russell on his right. Manuel will keep his old position at left tackle and is sure to do well. The remaining line positions will have to be filled by recruits. The departure of A. R. Cobb leaves the right tackle position vacant and there seems to be no one good enough to fill it. Witham and Clifford, both '15 men and members of last year's second team, are candidates for the berth. Danahy and Thompson, conceded to have been the best pair...

...Talbot, Connor and Pidgeon will all be used at quarter, it seems, and all three are brainy workers. Talbot is a veteran and his experience gives him the preference, but both Connor and Pidgeon are too good not to receive an opportunity to work. Talbot was badly injured in the Harvard game last year and the coaches will make an effort to save him this year because he is a valuable baseball man. Connor, except for his extreme lightness, would probably have the call over both Pidgeon and Talbot. He is faster and handles the ball cleaner. He is also...

Except for several line positions, the personnel of the Varsity seems a fairly fixed proposition. With Mahan and Bradlee centered around Captain Brickley in the backfield the team has a veteran combination hard to match. Mahan has been leading in the punting line, his boots averaging over 50 yards, and all of them well-placed. Both Hardwick and Felton are running close seconds to Mahan in this department, while Bradlee's punts are high and carry well...
