Its themes are simultaneously fundamental and extremely complex and manifold--the ancient theme of the cyclicality of nature and of female fertility is beaten into the viewer like a hammer. But at the same time the play presents us with a vision of one in whom that cycle is broken--"blocked up," as many of the play's characters repeat of Yerma--and asked to try to understand, with Yerma, the meaning of this arresting of the natural cycle in terms of "fate" and of morality...

Such reminiscing remains appropriate in the first chapter, where Dyson speaks of "How [she] got the story and learned to love markets." Her attempts to find a vocational niche in Moscow and her participation on the board of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an online civil liberties organization, require less of the conversational tone used in discussing her childhood dinners...

Here Dyson's "love [of] markets" reveals itself yet again: her descriptions of global agencies and investor/consumer protection on the Internet provide further evidence of the economic bases behind her vision of a digitalized society...

Most simply make one statement and then repeat it, and those that elaborate do so in a superficial manner. Floyd Lloyd succeeds in offering a vision of soft ska, but he does not succeed in actualizing that vision. What is left is a CD that is mediocre at best--sapping the music of its energy and leaving nothing substantial in its place...
