Sights of Washington: Captain Vivian Cornelius, the handsome Britisher who was wounded during the evacuation of Dunkirk and who has caused "heart attacks" to several Washington society ladies...
Victor has just released Stokowski's excellent recording of Szostakowicz's sixth symphony, and Columbia has recorded his quintet for piano and strings with the Stuyvesant Quartet and a Miss Vivian Rivkin. I haven't been able to hear the quintet, but I was very much impressed by the sixth. Said the ex-fiancée impetuously: "Jakie can have his Lemmon. . . . I'm going to look for a job." Said...
Jacob L. ("Jakie") Webb, ex-sailor, kept the Vanderbilt family in the love news by declaring he was about to elope with Vivian Stokes, Newport's current glamor girl. Twenty-three-year-old Jakie, briefly married two years ago, is the wandering great-great-grandson of the late Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, founder of the family fortune. Vivian, not quite 18, is scheduled to make a splashy Newport debut next week. Jakie turned up there after a three-month absence, declaring he had: joined Canada's Black Watch; ferried bombers to Britain; air-dueled with Germans. He wore...
