...high-quality recording to recreate the dynamic of a live performance, but it often fails to match the intensity of group's multimedia theatrics. The album opens with the power of ringing guitars and tight percussion assaults which combine to form an exciting, tension-filled narrative. Hollow echoes and vivid peaks evoke images of creation and destruction, and tracks like "Rods and Cones" and "Drumbone" will appeal to the electronic sensibilities of any Lansdowne Street patron...

...remember what we want to remember about Pete Rose: the player called Charlie Hustle running out walks, hurling himself head first to take an extra base, and breaking the most venerable record in baseball--Ty Cobb's 4,191 hits. Those memories are vivid, etched into our baseball consciousness, along with the exploits of immortals like Cobb, Ruth, Robinson and Mays, in whose Hall of Fame company Rose arguably belongs...

Sweeping vistas of mountains, forested and deforested, are perfectly rendered, making it easy to forget that they were drawn. In the hands of a director as talented as Miyazaki animation can create a vivid dream world that engages the viewer completely...

...from a need to appear moderate in moderate times. Faced with George W. Bush's "compassionate conservatism," the religious right is on the defensive; its preoccupation with the sin of gayness seems increasingly extreme to ordinary people. This too is Matthew Shepard's legacy: in death, he served as vivid proof of the suffering that scars gay life in America. In this new climate, any evangelical might do well to lie low and preach tolerance. One good sign for Falwell: the Rev. Fred Phelps, the viciously homophobic Kansas preacher who picketed Shepard's funeral, stood outside the Lynchburg meeting with...
