...this meant their work was rarely seen. Now a new museum in Prague seeks to rescue them from obscurity. "This generation has been skipped over and forgotten," says Meda Mladek, a Czech-American art collector who founded the Museum Kampa. Located in a beautifully restored mill house on the Vltava River, the museum features a collection of 150 works by 50 artists who worked in Central Europe between the 1960s and the 1980s. ...billions of dollars' worth of damage to the farms, cities and hamlets of Central and Eastern Europe. Prague looked like a city under siege. Military rescue vehicles rumbled down the Czech capital's flooded streets, in which soldiers, firemen and volunteers labored to rescue stranded citizens and keep the Vltava River, which winds through the city, from destroying architectural treasures. ...NATIONALE NEDERLANDEN BUILDING: A structure as playful as this deserves a nickname. And Frank Gehry and Croatian-born architect Vladimir Milunic's new building on the banks of the Vltava River in Prague has one. It's called Fred and Ginger, after its twin towers: one flirty and curvilinear, the other solid and upright. The staggered windows and rippled riverfront facade reflect the adjacent row houses even as the building stands apart from the rest of the city. Using some local construction techniques combined with sophisticated three-dimensional computer modeling, the two architects maintained consistency with the surrounding buildings...
