...Hicks and the Hot Licks rather than His Hot Licks - and the album is studded with guest appearances from Elvis Costello, Bette Midler, Brian Setzer, Ricki Lee Jones and Tom Waits. But worthy though their contributions may be, they are mostly window dressing; Midler's terrific vocal on "Strike It While It's Hot" notwithstanding, nothing here really needs the star wattage to justify it. ...only there had been more focus on quality and not just quantity, on changing the substance of the Boys' sound and not just making slight alterations in their style. The Boys' vocals remain both wispy and overdone--kind of like their facial hair--and none of the songs seem deeply felt. Backstreet's doing nothing that other contemporary vocal groups haven't done better: Jodeci had more personality, Blackstreet had better material, Boyz II Men are better singers. And, going back a bit, Backstreet has never recorded a song as soulful as the Doobie Brothers' What a Fool Believes...

...these are drawings of a juvenile robin, a regular adult, a "pale adult" and a slightly different form of the bird seen in eastern Canada. Another drawing portrays a group of robins in typical feeding postures on the ground. Beneath the artwork, Sibley presents a detailed description of robins' vocal behavior ("Call varies from a low, mellow pup or a sharp, clucking, often doubled piik to a sharper, rapid, urgent series kli quiquiquiqui koo...").
