Aaron's gift to his community these past three years isn't just generous; it fills a void. The school district employs only three full-time network specialists to address the needs of 30 schools. While two of the specialists are also responsible for teaching district employees how to use computers, they rarely visit schools...
Danny Glover, Virginia Madsen and Mickey Rourke are solid in their supporting roles. Matt Damon, however, isn't given much of a chance to show off his acting. Unlike McConaughey in A Time to Kill, Damon has to deal with a character void of nuance, subtlety and originality. His personality is best summed up in his much-repeated mantra, "I want to expose these people." Damon, struggling under the burden of such hackneyed lines, is given little chance to show sensitivity or idiosyncrasy. It is every human's duty, through good works, prayer and mystical contemplation, to raise the sparks back up to the Godhead and repair...
Even though the tracks are void of originality, the slashing social commentary, accessible melodies and comic relief still keep the mind and ears in focus. "Monosyllabic Girl" cranks out an ecstatic 54 second love ramble, suffused with unadulterated joy for a most unusual girl ("I take her to the seaside where she likes to spin and twirl/She says sure and cool and yeah/She's my monosyllabic girl"). On a more critical note, the scathing, frenetic "It's My Job to Keep Punk Rock Elite" opens So Long with fiery skate punk underground attack on corporate A&R sharks, summed...
