Professor Sorokin was born in the Province of Vologda, Russia, and lived in Europe until 1922, when he was exiled from his country because of literature which he had published. He was educated at the Teachers College and the Psycho-Neurological Institute of the University of St. Petersburg. Before coming to the United States he held the position of chairman of the Department of Sociology at the University from which he graduated and spent some time in Czechoslovakia.
